Junior Duals in Oklahoma City OK

Junior Duals

Team Georgia sent two teams to Oklahoma City for the Junior National Duals in both Greco and Freestyle during the week of June 24-28, 2014. Life University Head Coach Mike Miller, Holy Innocents Head Coach Stacey Davis, Newnan Head Coach Sean Hage, and Mike Enright from Team Wicked assisted Head Coach Josh Porter now at South Paulding High School.  Wolfgang Timbs also accompanied the coaching staff as Team Georgia’s representative for the officiating crew.  Team leaders were Robbie and Denise Rogers from the Toombs County Wrestling program.

Preparation for the trip began June 4th at Life University. Life U once again sponsored the intensive camp from June 4-7 for the Georgia Cadets Juniors. Practice began at 9am and went thru 6 PM Wednesday thru Friday with a half-day session on Saturday. The intensive camp was run by the coaches from the Cadet and Junior National programs.

The Junior National Team loaded a charter bus on Tuesday June 24 with a total of 33 wrestlers from wrestling programs across the state. After a 13-hour bus ride the teams arrived in Oklahoma ready to weigh in. In Greco competition Team Georgia Blue place 13th in Greco. Team Georgia Red did not place. After two days of Greco competition the teams weighed in again for Freestyle. In Freestyle competition Team Georgia Blue earned a 14th place finish. Team Georgia Red did not place.

Team and individual results can be found on Track Wrestling.  Click here for Greco & Freestyle Results.  Everyone that participated would like to thank Team Georgia for making this trip happen. Countless volunteer hours were spent behind the scenes planning and making preparations for the trip. Coaches gave of themselves during their summer break to run the intensive camp and to coach the wrestlers in the event. Team Georgia is already making plans for next summer and the National Duals for their Schoolboy, Cadet, and Junior teams.
