Team Selection Criteria

  • The top 3 kids from each weight class at the 2019 Georgia Kids State Tournament will be the first group to be eligible for the team
  • You must declare your interest by Friday March 15th at 11:59pm.
  • You must also pay a deposit for the trip by Friday March 22nd or your spot may be forfeited.
  • Because Heartland Duals has a 1st-6th and Middle School division with weights that do not always align with our state weights, the following criteria is in place for team selection:
    • If two finalists who wrestled in the state tournament sign up for the same weight class, we will take the state champion over the runner up
    • If two state champions (from the same age group or different age groups) want the same weight class, there will be a wrestle off held (see below for wrestle off procedures)
    • If a state champion from one weight class or age division and a second OR third place finisher from a different weight class or age division want the same Heartland weight, a wrestle off will be offered (i.e. an 8u parent may elect to not wrestle off a 12u wrestler and chose to forfeit that weight)
    • IF a weight class does not meet the above criteria after the deadline, we will then look to take a state placer based on coaches discretion.
    • If criteria is not satisfied first, coaches will make the final call to ensure all weight classes are filled.

Wrestle off procedures:

  • If two wrestlers are vying for the same weight, a best of three series will take place using the periods used at Heartland Duals for that division.
  • If more than two wrestlers want the same spot, it will be a round robin format with only one match each. NFHS tie breaker criteria will be used.
  • You must weigh in at the wrestle off location (time and place to be determined).
  • You will be given a +2 allowance above the weight class you are wrestling off for
  • A GHSA official will be used for the wrestle off
